The NCH is successfully making contact with magazines like Newsweek, Parents Magazine, and Prevention to give them correct information about homeopathy.
A key role of the NCH is to let media outlets know about homeopathy and to clear up misconceptions when they print stories that misinform the public. Thanks to the remarkable efforts of NCH media specialist, Peter Gold, we have been having more and more success.
For example, Newsweek recently published a story that described the over-priced and ineffective cancer treatment by a so-called homeopath. The story also went on to spread the old canard that homeopathy is unproven. Gold (as well as several of the professional homeopathic organizations) made contact with Newsweek to clarify that the practitioner was not a homeopath at all. And in response to their claim of homeopathy being unproven, the NCH set up a conference call that introduced Newsweek's senior medical editor, Jerry Adler, to esteemed researchers, Dr. Iris Bell, MD and Dr. Rustom Roy. Jerry is a 27 year veteran at Newsweek. He began the call respectful but skeptical. Iris and Rustum were magnificent. At the end of the 60 minutes, Jerry expressed his gratitude for our professional conduct and our informed positions. He admitted he wanted to research the topic in much greater detail. Overall - an excellent call for homeopathy.
A similar conference call was also set up with the medical editor of Parents Magazine - Diane Debrovner. Diane was much more open to the topic but admitted her magazine has opposed covering homeopathy. After one hour, we believe we made great strides with the magazine and can hope for increased coverage of homeopathy.
Finally, we did a repeat performance with the senior medical editor of Prevention - Julian Kesner. Julian admitted to knowing little about the topic and also explained that the magazine has a history of skepticism towards homeopathy - "no proof that it works for any condition". We believe Julian was impressed by what he heard. He actually admitted that he believed homeopathy was plausible (incredible!) -- just completely unproven. Iris was magnificent in this regard. Another good call for the cause.
That's why your support of the NCH is vitally important. Without your membership and contribution dollars, our fight for homeopathy would be impossible. It's finally time for the public to hear the truth!
